Everlyn Covington Obituary

Today we gather for a Celebration of Life Ceremony for Mrs. Everlyn Hayes Covington, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Everlyn received her heavenly wings on Saturday, March 31, 2018 at her home.

Mrs. Everlyn Hayes Covington was born April 25, 1953 in Bennettsville, South Carolina to the late Mr. Booker T. Hayes and Mrs. Ella Mae Hepburn Hayes. Everlyn accepted Christ at an early age and joined Cedar Fall Baptist Church. She received her former education in the Marlboro County School System and graduated with Blenheim High School’s Class of 1971. Everlyn was formerly married to James L. Covington, Jr and to this union four children were born. She retired from Willamette Industries and enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, sewing and sitting on her porch.

Everlyn (affectionately known as “Susie”) was the fourth child of seven siblings, Edward Hayes, Blenheim, SC; Sarah Cook, Bennettsville, SC; Williams Hayes, Bennettsville, SC; Deborah Coles, Fayetteville, NC; Danny Hayes, Bennettsville, SC; Jacqueline Williams, Bennettsville, SC and Jessie M. Thomas, Bennettsville, SC .

She leaves to cherish in her loving memories children, Renee Covington-Dupree (Wilson) of Charlotte, NC, James L Covington III (LaTonya Walton) of Atlanta, GA, Tosha Covington of Charlotte, NC and Michael Covington of Key West, FL. Everlyn was blessed with nine grandchildren, Shatoria Covington, Jaronde Covington, Trevion Brailsford aka “Stormy”, Tatiana Dupree aka “Punkin”, Talaisha Covington, Ja’Torian Covington aka “JD”, Chandler Covington, Isaiah Dupree and Collin Covington. Four great-grandchildren and one God-daughter J. Monique Brown. Also left to cherish her memory are her uncle Deacon James Fuller and second mother figure Ms. Earlene Campbell along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A public viewing will be held at Cedar Fall Baptist Church, one hour prior to the service.

The family is receiving friends at 762 J. Ben Rogers Road, Bennettsville.
