John Walter Witherspoon was born May 2, 1922. He was the son of the late Herbert Lee and Martha Ann McCall Witherspoon.
He attended the public school system of Marlboro County.
Mr. Witherspoon was a World War II veteran having served in the United States Army.
He accepted Christ as an early age and joined Cedar Fall Missionary Baptist Church.
In 1967 he moved to Philadelphia, PA and worked for TruckeCompany where he retired. He also worked for Philadelphia Public School System where he also retired. He was a member of Berean Baptist Church.
Mr. Witherspoon was united in holy matrimony to Blanche Nettle Witherspoon and to this union nine children were born.
He was predeceased by one daughter Michell Campbell, one son Morris Witherspoon and two brothers Zannie Witherspoon and Thomas Witherspoon.
On Friday September 16, 2016 Mr. Witherspoon was called home to be with his Master.
LLeaving to cherish his legacy are his wife Blanche Witherspoon of Bennettsville, SC; five sons Albert Witherspoon of Bennettsville, SC, James (Mary) Witherspoon of Bennettsville, SC, John Witherspoon, Elijah Witherspoon and ZannieWitherspoon all of High Point, NC; four daughters Brenda Witherspoon Nelson of Bennettsville, SC, Debra (Cyrus) Bittleand Martha Witherspoon Zeb of High Point, NC; twenty two grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
