Shirley Ellison

Shirley Ann Ellison was born on December 23, 1955 in Philadelphia, PA to Sam and Ella Ellison. Shirley was the 5th of seven children. She was affectionately known to her father as “Cutie Pie”. She was an extraordinary woman with a loving, quiet spirit. She loved to read, watch television, decorate, and shop. Shirley was an active member of Goodwin Chapel AME Zion church, and loved the Lord. 

Shirley was educated in the Philadelphia school system, graduating from John Bartram High School in 1973. She completed two years at Virginia State University before beginning her career. Shirley worked as a secretary at the Philadelphia Naval Base for many years before relocating to McColl South Carolina to be with her parents. She was employed by Butler Manufacturing Company, and then worked for many years as a home health office manager at Healthkeeperz. This became her love, and she later went back into the field as a CNA for the Carolina Hearts organization.Shirley loved to help people. Her kind heart and desire to help others made her perfect for the job.

In 1989 the sun rose in Shirley’s life when her only child, Cressia, was born. The two had a close, special bond that could never be broken. Anyone who knew Shirley knew about Cressia and how much she loved her, and how proud she was of her.

Shirley Ann Ellison departed this life on January 7, 2017.

She is survived by her daughter, Cressia Ellison, Kingstree, SC; four brothers, Freddie Mack Ellison, Bennettsville, SC, Larry Ellison (Lenore), Philadelphia, PA, Gregory Ellison (Gloria), Richmond, VA, Randolph Ellison (Sandra), Laurinburg, NC; two sisters, Samella Jefferson, McColl, SC, Marcina Ellison-Jackson (Robert), Bennettsville, SC; two aunts, Leanna Rogers and Edna Ellison, and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, special relatives, and friends who love her and will miss her.

A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, January 13, 2017 at Noon at Goodwin Chapel AME Zion Church. The Reverend Jessie McLendon, Pastor. Interment will follow in the St. Paul Community Cemetery.
