Valerie Michelle Gainey

Valerie was born to Harold Gainey and the Late Lucy Louise Gainey. She attended the public school in New York as well as a few years in South Carolina. She eventually chose to finish her education in Brooklyn, NY where she attended Long Island University. Along with school she worked at the post office where she met her husband, Wilford Kenneth Edwards. To this union four children was born: Kenya, Kazon, Kayla, and Kwami. Valerie then worked in the school district fourteen as the superintendent of the cafeteria. she also was an Eastern Star and a Youth Coordinator of the Tomahawks Football Team. Along with her mother Valerie also ran and operated Little Angels Daycare Center. From there her love for children lead her to work with Little Flower Agencies where she opened her home to foster children.

On April 16, 2005 Valerie’s mother Lucy Louise Gainey was picked from the garden of life and left behind a legacy that Valerie chose to continue. She later moved to Bennettsville, SC where she continued her mother’s legacy of caring for Monique, Philp, and Ariff. With most tired days and many sleepless nights Valerie Michelle Gainey was a shining star that lit up a room with just a smile. The biggest heart giving a helping hand to anyone that crossed her path.

Valerie will be missed and never forgotten by the many that knew her as Fast Phanny, Val, and Mrs. Val. She will forever be in the hearts of the ones that called her mother, sister, auntie, and grandbaby.

Valerie is also proceeded in death by her brother, Bruce E. Gainey.

She leaves to cherish her memories her husband, Wilford Kenneth Edwards of NY; father Harold (Ernestine) Gainey; children, Kenya, Kazon, Kayla, Kwami, and Zion; godchildren, Zaquan and MSGT Erica Moore; grandbabies, Skyler, Kalayla, Kenadi; sister, Vicky Gainey (Gary) Simmons; five sisters-in-law including Adriana Edwards and Jeraldin (Papya) Edwards; brothers, Quran, Philip, and Ariff Gainey; step brother Robert (Snappa) Allen; brother-in-law, Mario Edwards, nieces, Veronica Gainey, Malika Newsome, Davisha, Daquasha Simmons, Kayronna and Christianna Gainey; nephew, Vincent (Doda) Arnold; four aunts; three uncles; one special uncle Terry Sanders and a host of cousins and friends including one special friend Lisa Daye and a friend of the home Marvin Williams.
