Betty Williams Obituary

Ms. Betty Jean Williams, daughter of the late Edith James, was born on April 27, 1940 in Marlboro County, Bennettsville, SC.

Ms. Betty Williams departed this life on Monday, November, 25, 2019 at her residence in Jamaica, New York, surrounding by her loving family.

She attended school in the South Carolina School system before graduating from Eastside High School in Bennettsville, SC and attending college at Livingston College in Salisbury, NC.

She accepted Christ and was baptized at an early age and joined Macedonia Baptist Church.

Betty met the love of her life in the early 60s and from their union she was blessed with 2 loving children.  She spent her entire life dedicated to the love and support of children.  In 2000 and 2007 her heart grew even bigger as she became very involved in the rearing and upbringing of her “boys”, her two grandsons.

Betty was a smart and energetic woman.  She loved to travel between the North and Southeast.  Her passion for technology was evident and she was always known as a “go getter”.  She was a dedicated friend to all and the “glue” of her family.  She was a classy lady with a heart of gold.  Amongst other passions she enjoyed planting flowers, baking scratch cakes and doing Income taxes. She was a gem to all that knew her over the years and leaves an incredible legacy.

Betty leaves to cherish in her Loving Memory, her son, Joaquin Gilchrist of Jamaica, NY and her daughter and Son-In-Law, Tracci (Dante) Jones of Jamaica, NY. Two grandsons which she cherished, Jaelen and Jabari Jones of Jamaica, NY.  Barbara Woods of Jamaica, NY and Barbara’s children which she loved and shared a special relationship with as her nieces and nephews, Geoffery Tillman of Jamaica, NY, Nicole (Ronnie) Hudson of Pearland, TX, Derrick Tillman and Portia Woods.  A host of other family she loved dearly: Wayne (Angie) and Carter Burton, Brianna Hudson, Elijah Hudson, Chancellor Tillman, Lenora Shaw, Genora Simmons and Liz Wright. Her Dedicated Friends, Margaret Mells, Edna Johnson, Gloria Murrell and Bobbie Pittman and also Winnette Lewis of Queens, NY who was a caretaker and friend until the end and a host of cousins, relatives and friends.
