John Henry Currie, son of the late James Currie and Mamie Ratcliff Currie, was born on November 16, 1927 in Marlboro County. Mr. Currie peacefully departed this life to his eternal home in Florence, SC at the McLeod Hospice House on April 9, 2018.
At an early age, John was baptized and joined the Historical Saw Mill Missionary Baptist Church. John received his formal education in the Marlboro County Public Schools.
Mr. Currie retired from Mohawk Industries, and enjoyed gardening, yard work, and spending time with family and friends. He spent many summers visiting his sister, Mamie and brother, Ernest in Sacramento, California.
John was a faithful and dedicated trustee, member of Joint Stock Sawmill #375, Circle #1, and a former member of the Willing Workers.
John was the 5th of six children. Maggie, Otis, Jame, and Ernest preceded him in death along with his son, Jessie Williams.
Left to cherish his loving memories are his grandson, Maurice Bingham of Bennettsville, SC; two sisters, Mamie Cowlings of Sacramento, CA, and Shirley Little of Bennettsville, SC; nieces, Ann Ingrid Bracey, Linda Cowlings, Gail and Ernestine Currie, Sylvia, Deborah, Carolyn, and Shirleen Littles; nephews, James and Frank Bracey, Edward Little, Ronald Watson, Fred, Larry, and Thomas Cowling, and Ernest Currie; one great grandson, Demareon Bingham of Bennettsville, SC; Perry Poe whom he raised, and a host of great nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends including special and trusted friends Richard Jacobs, and David of the neighborhood.
The family is receiving friends at 148 Glen Street, Bennettsville.
