Born on December 27, 1937, Arletha Leggett was the fourth of nine children born to Rosalie Leggett. She grew up in Bennettsville, SC where she spent her childhood and was educated in the Marlborough County School System. She also spent a considerable number of years in New York City before returning to her home in the South.
Arletha was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She raised three sons, Gregory, Earl and Darrell, the youngest son, (who preceded her in death.) More than 30 years ago, she rededicated her life to Christ after the loss of Darrell.
She was an active member of Body of God by Faith Church under Bishop Hills (formerly Born-Again Church Apostolic in Dillion), where she served as Pastor aide, evangelist, choir member and also helped wherever it was needed.
Arletha was proud to be a registered nurse, where for many years she attended to the medical and emotional needs of her patients. Compassionate caring was a special calling on her life. She was an excellent cook, and you could always hear her beautiful voice singing as she busied herself around the house.
She departed this world on January 17, 2020 at the Dundee Manor Nursing Home, Bennettsville, SC after a long illness. Arletha leaves to cherish her memory two sons, Greg and Earl, four grandchildren, and one great grandson. her brother Izander Leggett (Vass, NC), sisters Betty Brown (Hamden, CT), Carolyn Harper and Marilyn Brown (Bethlehem, PA) and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Her other siblings, Thomas Leggett, Ethel Simmons, Geri Owens, and Patricia Dunham preceded her in death
