Derrick Cook Obituary

Mr. Derrick Eugene Cook was the son of Gloria Parnell Cook and the late Eugene Cook.  He was born June 18, 1964, in Marlboro County.

Derrick gave his life to Christ at an early age where he joined Spears United Methodist Church.

He attended Clio High School class 1982.

Derrick’s grandfather putting him on a tractor at the age of 2 sparked a thirst for farming. He was an admirer of God’s creation and most at home with nature. He farmed the land and was a humble laborer in God’s mandate of seedtime and harvest (Genesis 8:22).  For years he farmed the fields of Marlboro County and was most recently employed with John McInnis Farms Inc. of Clio.

Derrick was a beloved son, father, brother, and uncle who was always there to lend a helping hand. Derrick had an infectious smile and a courageous spirit.

Derrick was preceded in death by his father Eugene C. Cook, son Derrick Maurice St. Claire Baldwin, paternal grandparents the late Joshua and Pearletha Campbell Cook and his maternal Grandparents, James “Jay or J.T” and Lillie Woods Parnell.

Derrick leaves to cherish his memories his loving mother Gloria Parnell Cook, his sister Sharon LaSonya Allen and niece Kendell Simone Allen of Valrico, Florida. His special godparents and paternal aunt and uncle Gladys and James “Bill” Breeden of Clio, grandson Jesiah Baldwin of Bennettsville, SC; Aunts Annie L. Parnell Southerland of Brooklyn, NY, Earnestine A. Cook of Bennettsville, SC, Cleola Parnell of Richmond, VA., one uncle Levance (Alice) Parnell of High Point, NC.

Derrick also leaves to cherish his memories many relatives, cousins and friends to whom he would rename their kinship in relation to his love for them.
