Derrick McDuffie Obituary

With profound sorrow we announce the passing of Derrick McDuffie who departed this life September 6, 2021 in Fayetteville NC.

A funeral service will be held Saturday at 4:00 pm at Berea Convention Center. Interment will follow in the Word of Life Memorial Garden.

 

Derrick McDuffie was born on September 22, 1978, to James Charles McDuffie Sr. and Betty Teal McDuffie in Bennettsville, South Carolina. He answered his Master’s Call on Monday, September 6, 2021.

Derrick was converted at an early age and joined Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Bennettsville SC and sang on the Children’s Choir. He started singing at the age of seven years old with his siblings and cousins. In 1996 after meeting the love of his life Regina, he changed his membership to Word of Life Christian Center Ministries (21 yrs.) under the leadership of Dr. Iva D Hodge and Pastor Eddie Davis. In 2017 he became a member of Community of Grace Church still under the leadership of Pastor Eddie L Davis.

Derrick had a passion for singing. In his earlier years he enjoyed singing with his siblings the Golden Stars now known as the McDuffie Family. In 1998 he founded his own group Derrick McDuffie and the Spiritual Messengers. In 2019 he returned to his siblings The Mcduffie Family. He also loved playing the bass guitar and drums.

Derrick was educated in the public school system of Marlboro County. He was a Electrician for Cayce Electric Company and McCarter Electric and Simmons Heating and cooling for many years. He loved wiring up schools, prisons, new hospitals, churches, buildings and anything that needed electricity.

Derrick was preceded in death by his mother-in-law Dorothy Blue McQueen. His brother and grandfather Pastor Ricky McDuffie Sr. and Melvin Teal Sr. His grandmothers Mary E. McDuffie and Alice Mae Walls Teal. His aunts Patricia Teal, Katie Sealy, Mamie, and Patricia McDuffie.

Cherishing Loving, Blessed, Amazing, Joyful and Wonderful memories are his wife Regina McDuffie of the home. His daughter Benyetta (Rashad) Burroughs of Laurinburg NC; sons Kadeem Ray of Greenville SC; Kendal (Tamiko) Ray of Wallace, SC: four grandchildren Kingston, Taz, PaPa, and Majeste Ray. His parents James Charles McDuffie Sr and Betty Teal McDuffie, Sisters: Marsharika (Charles) Quick, Sharmeika McDuffie, Brothers: Rodney McDuffie, James Charles McDuffie Jr, Laytron (Naimah) McDuffie of New Jersey. Sisters-in-law: Lori Davis, Valarie McDuffie and Tomeka Kollock, Linda Kollock of Highpoint, NC: Brothers-in-law: Ed (Wendy) Blue, James Blue, Charles (Tasha) Kollock, John Kollock, Lawrence (Jean) Kollock, Gregory Kollock, Aunts and Uncles: Julia (Stanley) McRae of Maryland, Evelyn (Willie) McRae of Clio, SC, Pearletha Caristi of New York, Wanda McDuffie of Boston, Annie Broddy, Melvin Teal Jr., Victor Campbell, Great Aunts and Uncles: Clyde Sealy, Willie, and Glen Bright: Pastor Margret Wilson and Clara (Carson) Llyod: Aunt and Uncle-in-laws: Edmond Campbell, June Campbell, Calvin (Emma Neil) Bethea, Pastor Sarah (Tommy) Polston, Wilhelmina Bethea, Jenny Bethea, Gloria Jean Quick, and Willie Bethea Jr. He has 22 nieces and nephews. Special Nephews and Nieces Tyreece Williams, Tyreek (Makayla) Williams, Tasheka Blue, Allen Michael Adams, Marneshia (Rashid) Covington and RJ Mcduffie your love and respect for your uncle will never be forgotten. A special God daughter Kimberly Armfield.
