Obituary

With profound sorrow we announce the passing of Dorcas G. Green who departed this September 3, 2023 at her residence.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday, September 9, 2023 at 2pm at the Berea Baptist Convention Center. Interment will follow in the Trinity United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Dorcas Lucas Green was born June 5th, 1936, in Tatum, SC. She was born to the Late Annie Mae Lucas Smoot and Ezra Hall. She was reared in the home of her grandmother Gussie Lucas.

Dorcas slept away peacefully on September 3, 2023.

Dorcas was educated in the public schools of Marlboro County. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and a member of the United Women of Faith. She retired from the Lowcountry Coastal Center in Ladson, SC.

Dorcas was a sociable person. She enjoyed helping others. Her home was open to many friends and family as she prepared meals to feed the soul. She was an avid reader and she loved sitting on her screened in porch watching the birds and squirrels. One of her favorite pastimes was getting up early on the weekends and going to yard sales. She also loved meeting new people as she held her own yard sales at her home. Dorcas loved spending time with her children and family. Dorcas wore a mean church hat. She took pride in ensuring her ensemble was breathtaking, with a hat to match.

Dorcas was married to the Late Hudson Thomas to which six children were born of this union. Later in life, she married Herman Green and gained another son, the Late Daryle Green.

Dorcas was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Green, her sons, Kalvin Thomas (Lorranie Thomas) and Daryle Green, her brothers Ronald Smoot, Donald Smoot, Alonzo Smoot, Alexander Smoot and grandchildren, Ronald “Patches” Thomas and Emmanuel Lewis, and Connie Nelson.

She leaves to cherish her memories her children, Dorothy Jacobs of the home, Hudson Thomas of Tatum, SC, Sylvia Thomas of Summerville, SC, Jacqueline Graham of Tatum, SC, and Elaine Lewis (Robert) of Ridgeville, SC.  She leaves behind three sisters, Peggy McRae of Bennettsville, SC, Pearl (Raymond)Robinson of Bennettsville, SC, and Leacy Irby of Summerville, SC.  Also cherishing her memory are her sisters-in-law, Rosa Foster of Rock Hill, SC and Delores Greene of Summerville, SC. Her grandchildren, Greg, Jacquel, Shameka, Corey, Brian, Kennita, Jermaine Thomas, Brandon, Teddy (Theo), Chelcie, Phoebe, and Angela will miss her dearly. Her great grandchildren and great- great grandchildren will remember her fondly. She also leaves behind her godchildren, Arbadella Davis, Leaci Dudley and Dorian Harley. A special family friend, Calton (Bo) Purvis will miss her presence as well. Her special long time friends Elaine Reed of Ridgeville, SC and Janie Nelson of Mt. Pleasant, SC will surely miss their many phone conversations.  She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
