Ella McRae Obituary

Ella Mae McRae of Clio, SC departed this earthly life on Tuesday, March 10, 2020 at MUSC, Florence, SC.

She was born December 7, 1943 to the late Verga Wright and Lee Curtis, Sr. (Ollie Stanton). Ella was reared in the home of her uncle Delton and Clara Wright after her mom untimely death.

She was united in marriage on August 13, 1961 (58 years) to Howard McRae and to this union seven children were born.

Ella was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Ella Pearl McRae; siblings, Lawrence (Sonny) Wright, Doris Stanton, Myrtle Wright, and Mack A. Wright; uncles, William Wright, Delton Wright, Edward Wright, and Thomas Wright; aunt Inez Southerland. Brothers-in-law, Bobby McRae, Thomas McRae, Tommy Hayes, Bobby Hayes, Winfred McClellan; sisters-in-law Mary McRae and Cora Dickerson.

For the past 23 years Ella attended Fresenius Dialysis three times a week due to kidney failure. She was a faithful and loyal member of Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church where she sung on the spiritual choir, attended Sunday School, bible study, and church faithfully until recently when he health declined.

She worked in textile for years; she was an awesome caretaker to Fantasia Johnson (great niece), the Newtons and others. She loved gardening, flowering, and cooking for her family. Most of all making her famous lemonade and Mac & Cheese for her grandchildren. On Sunday evening she always would have conversations with her friend and sister-in-law Bertha and Mary Ann and sit back and watch TD Jakes with her sister-in-law, Laura McRae.

She leaves to cherish her fond memories her husband, Howard McRae; six children, Peggy (Jerome) Manning of Clio, SC, Howard Lee (Patricia) of Bennettsville, SC, Charles P. (Chaneka) of Clio, SC, SMSGT Neal E. (Elder Lisa) of Sumter, SC, Quentin L. and Jeremy D. McRae both of the home. A special grandson reared in the home MSG Ansel R. (Joycelyn) Manning of Lillington, NC; grandchildren SSG Deidra Manning, Bernadatte Sharpe, Alisha McRae, Courtney McRae, 2nd LT Myron McRae, Rakeem McInnis, Kevin McRae, Tyion Manning, Trinity McRae; great grands, Alana, Jadione, Amyia, Anthony, Ansel Jr., LeaNette Brown. Brothers, Lee Curtis (Gladys) Stanton, John (Ethel) Stanton both of Bennettsville, SC, Jerome (Renee) Stanton, Ronnie (Erica) Stanton, and Charles Stanton all of Clio, SC, Dea. James (Patty) Stanton and Tyrone Stanton both Charlotte, NC. Brothers and sisters Evangelist Gladys Thomas of High Point, NC, John (Linda) Wright of Charlotte, NC, Marvin (Carrie) Wright and, Dennis (Trevonda) Wright both of High Point, NC, and Clara (Fred) Thompson of Clio, SC. Sisters-in-law, Virgia Hayes, Bertha McClellan, Laura McRae, and Leila (T.J) Mearite; brother-in-law, Patrick McRae; close friend/daughter, Debra S. McLain, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
