Ernestine Purvis Obituary

With profound sorrow we announce the passing of Ernestine Purvis who departed this life June 25, 2021 in Florence.

Funeral service will be held Thursday, July 1, 2021 at 12:00 PM in the Word of Life Memorial Garden. 

 

Ernestine Jones Purvis was born December 14, 1961, in Marlboro County to Curby and Mary Jones. She   transitioned on June 24, 2021, at McLeod in Florence.

Ernestine accepted Christ as her savior at an early age and joined The House of God in Bennettsville. She had a strong love for the Lord and loved to praise him. She attended the public schools of Marlboro County and was a member of the class of 1979. She worked at United Technologies for over 15 years.

She worked at Reliance where she was one of the top floral designers. She worked at Sopakco until her health failed.

Ernestine was known to friends and family as "Stine", known as "Big mama" to her grandchildren, and she was known as "GiGi" to her great-grandchildren. On December 24, 1981, she married the love of her life James Edward Purvis, and to their union four children were born.

Ernestine was a sweet and humble person from a child, she loved people and she was loved by people. She loved to cook and would feed any and everybody. She had a smile that was contagious and will really be missed.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband James Edward Purvis.

She leaves to cherish her memory her son James Purvis Jr. of the home, three daughters Amanda Purvis, Candace Purvis, and Justine Purvis all of Bennettsville, SC; her parents Curby and Mary Jones of Bennettsville, SC; one brother Kirby (Mary) Jones of McColl, SC; three sisters Betty Harley, Ruby Jones, and Yvette Watson all of Bennettsville, SC; three sisters-in-law Arletha (Tommy) Reese of MD; Shamira Townsend and Doetta Purvis both of Bennettsville, SC; three brothers-in-law James A. Purvis, Jerry (Callie) Purvis, and Clarence Purvis all of Bennettsville, SC; fifteen grandchildren and three great­ grandchildren. Two special nieces Lettie Ann (Larry) Robinson of Florence, SC, and Sean Reese of MD; two love adopted children Eddie Fuertes of Alaska and Shamicka McLaurin of Bennettsville, SC; one god sister Harriet Jackson, and many other nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
