Gladys Brown Obituary

Mrs. Gladys P. Brown, daughter of the late Maggie and Joe Purnell, was born February 10, 1940 in Marlboro County, South Carolina. She departed this earthly life on December 28, 2019 at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence.

Mrs. Gladys Brown was united in Holy Matrimony with Mr. Johnny Mack Brown for sixty-four years. This union was blessed with four generations to follow. Gladys was converted at an early age and became a covenant partner with New Covenant Free Rock Church. She was a devoted wife and mother and she had a love for all.

Mrs. Gladys was a very loving, kind, compassionate and sweet woman and a very special aunt who gave love to everyone. To know her was to love her. She will be dearly missed by all.

Mrs. Gladys was preceded in death by her two sons, Johnny and Larry Brown; three brothers Freddie, Joe and John Purnell and one sister Sallie Townsend.

Mrs. Gladys leaves to cherish her memory, husband Johnny Mack Brown; seven daughters, Carol (Alfonza) McCollum, Pastor Mary (Printis) Malloy, Gladys (Lonzo) Inman, Idell (Joe) Whittington, Sarah (James) Brown, Barbara (Dale) Spears and Patricia (Torance) Bethea; three sons Lonnie (Shirley) Brown, Ernest and Bobby Brown; forty four grandchildren including special grandchildren who were raised in the home Laysel, Willis, Latonya, Tyquan and Crystal Brown; Nyeisha Townsend and oldest grandchild Alfonza McCollum Jr, MD; ; ninety one great grandchildren and fourteen great-great grandchildren; eight sisters Bertha Clark, Pearline (J.R.) Dupree, Carrie Baker, Maggie Gurley, Mary Ann Purnell, Pearlie McKoy, Evon (Fredrick)  Davis and Ella Purnell; three brothers Willie, Tommy (Helen) Purnell and James (Sheba) Purnell; two aunts Louise Bennett and Gladys Hayes; two uncles Frank James and Kenny James god sister Flora McDougal; goddaughters Bertha Alford and Jessie and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The family is receiving friends at 2629 Vicksburg Drive, Hamer.
