On June 23, 1954, James Marshall Rogers entered this world as yet another blessing to the late Mary and John D. Rogers Sr. He departed this life on Thursday, March 4, 2021.
James was born at home to Mary and John D. Rogers in Bennettsville, SC. Marshall moved with his family to Connecticut in his youth where he attended public schools in Danbury, Connecticut. He later moved back to Bennettsville, South Carolina, where he had wished to settle for the rest of his life. In 1976, Diane Johnson and James Rogers had a child together, Tameeka A. Johnson.
James attended Saint Michael United Methodist Church. He worked his early years as a custodian in Bennettsville schools and at the House of Rayford for several years thereafter. He enjoyed landscaping and was a hard-working man.
Some of the greatest joys of his life were singing, dancing, laughing, fishing, riding his bike, passing time with friends and most of all his family. With his love, he impacted the lives of many people. He will be greatly missed, leaving behind countless memories in the lives he touched.
He leaves behind his one and only daughter, Tameeka Johnson (Diane) and one grandson De’Omus Nigel-Kyre Miles of Bellevue, W.A. He also leaves behind two brothers John Rogers Jr. (Fannie) of Danbury, C.T. and Harris Rogers (Faith) of McColl, S.C. Six sisters Mary McRae (Thomas Sr.) of Naugatuck, C.T., Angelina Lawson, Margaret Victor (Gustave Jr.), Avon Ballard (Rodney), Zenobia Rogers and Jacqueline Rogers all of Bennettsville, S.C. Lastly, he leaves behind a very special aunt, Thelma Valentine and his nephews Marshall Maurice, Michael and Mickey Williams, along with an abundance of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Preceding him in death are his loving parents Mary and John D. Rogers Sr., along with brothers Bobby Williams, Matthew Rogers, Lonnie Carl Rogers, Guerry Rogers, and Bobby Rogers.
