Larry Thomas Obituary

He will wipe away every tear from their eyes and death shall be no more neither shall there be mourning nor crying nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away. Revelation 21:4

On Tuesday September 6, 2022, on a beautiful evening Larry (Duke) Thomas peacefully transitioned to his heavenly home.

Larry (Duke) was born on August 6, 1963, to Mary Lee McLoyd in Marlboro County. Duke attended public school in Clio, SC. He graduated from Clio High in 1981.While attending High School Duke played football and baseball. At an early age Duke joined Old Clio United Methodist church.

Duke worked at Mohawk for 28 years until his health begin to fail.

If you knew Duke, you knew that he loved old school music especially Keith Sweat. During the past few years, you could often see Duke riding around listening to gospel music. His favorite gospel song was Walk Around Heaven. Duke’s hobbies were playing pool, spades, and softball. He was a Pittsburgh Steelers fan.

Duke never met a stranger in his life. If he could help you, he would. Duke loved people.

Duke married Shirley Loyd Thomas on July 1, 1989. After marriage Duke was baptized and joined Sandy Grove Missionary Baptist Church where he was a member of the Sandy Grove Softball team.

Duke was preceded in death by his brother Bobby Thomas and his maternal grandparents Hun & Carrie Thomas, uncles and one aunt.

Those who will be most profoundly deprived of his love, personality, and strength are his wife Shirley Thomas of the home, his children two sons Thomas G Loyd of the home and Germaine (Tiffany) Lloyd of Florence, SC and one daughter Rashida S Loyd of Florence SC. Four precious grandchildren Cedric and Andre Cooper and Aubree and Ashton Lloyd all of Florence, SC. His mother Mary Lee McLoyd and mother-in-law Blondell Carter both of Clio, SC. His twin sister Linda (Wille) Goodman of Clio, SC. Four sisters-in-law Rena (Sylvester) McLain and Rose Carter both of Clio, SC; Janet (Ray) Blue of Elizabethtown, NC, and Tarsha Carter of Monks Corner, SC Three brothers Jimmy (Phyllis) of Bennettsville, SC; Wille Thomas and Leon Loyd of Clio, SC. Four Brother- in- law Lawrence (Barbara) of Clio, SC, Jaquan Carter of Florence, SC, Randall Burns of New York, NY, and Michael McCall Charlotte, NC. Two Uncles Carlester Thomas of McColl, SC, and Jerry (Brenda) Loyd of Clio, SC. Two Aunts Johnola Woods of Fayetteville, NC, and Nancy (Jake) Powell of Midway, GA. Two Special Cousins Melvin Thomas and Tyrone Dimery. A Special niece who was his nurse, Leysha Stephens. Six close friends Theatmus McInnis, Ronnie Stanton, John Lester, Eric Davis, Leon Ratley, and Tina Davis. A host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends who loved him dearly.
