On the morning of March 2, 2021, God’s hand reached out to touch the shoulder of Leroy Woods and He whispered in his ear, “Well done, my good and faithful servant.”
Leroy, a loving husband, father and grandfather, son, brother and friend entered this world on November 2, 1940. Being reared in a God-fearing home of sharecroppers, he learned at an early age that if you sow a good harvest, you will reap a good crop. Leroy had a heart of gold and those whom he came in contact with felt his passion to give and willingness to serve. Leroy used his talents in ways of, carpentry (self-employed), plant supervisor at Mohawk industry, trustee and deacon at Sandy Grove Church, city councilman, member of Oak Ridge Masonic Lodge #350, and the first black mayor of Clio, SC, just to name a few of his accolades. He was a graduate of Lincoln High School. He was also very instrumental in the rebuilding of the church after it burned in 1995.
Leroy loved the song “I Believe I Can Fly” and while at Scotland Memorial Hospital, God gave him his wings. He was preceded in death by his father, Willie Woods II; two sons- Blake Woods and Tobbieo Woods; brother in laws-Albert and Moses; goddaughter- Clintonia Woods Ingram and one amazing friend William O’neal.
Those who will be most profoundly deprived of the warmth of his presence in their lives include his wife of 57 years, Betty Woods; four sons and a daughter: Lenny Kindall (Jennifer)of Spartanburg, SC; Malcolm Woods (Urethia) of Irmo, SC; Tanya White (Eric) of Charlotte, NC; Torrey Woods (Kim) of Chandler, AZ; Sam Rogers of High Point, NC ; Granddaughters and grandsons: Stacey Williams (Brad), Shakeia Townsend, Kendra and Lauren Woods, Jonathan Woods, Travis Woods, Marquis Harrison, Charles III and Jeremy Washington, Elliot Woods, Cassan Breeden, Sr. (Ryan), Matthew and Marcus Breeden; Great granddaughters and great grandsons: McKinley, Zoe, Santana, Taelyn, Tinsley, Rylee, Casaan Jr, Cannon and Cooper.
Leroy also leaves to mourn his passing his 104 years old mother Lula Woods of Clio, SC; Siblings: Edith Ratcliff of Queens NY; Wille Woods III (Ethel) of Clio, SC; Helen Mack of Clio, SC; Alexander Woods (Roxanne) Clio, SC; Betty Harley (Franklin) Clio, SC; Leon Woods (Lee Ester) Clio, SC; Carolyn Sumter (Samuel) Victoria, TX; Hattie Adams (Reese) Clio, SC and Daryl Woods (Toni) Clio, SC. A host of Goddaughters and Godsons: Karen Woods Pouncy, Christine Jackson, Dena Woods Jude, Scheral Johnson Ivery, Bruce Kindall, Ben Davis, Bernard McDuffie, Artemus Woods, Jr., and Robert Covington. And a host of relatives and friends.
