Lonnie Wesley Ward affectionately known as Bogan was born in Marlboro County, South Carolina on December 30, 1930 to the late Ila Harley Ward and the late Hezekiah Ward.
At an early age, Lonnie accepted Christ and joined Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church serving in many capacities such as the Junior Choir president for many years, Trustee Ministry, Deacon’s Ministry for 60 years serving as chairman for 30 years.
On Friday, March 13, 2020 while at his home, God’s heavenly angels were dispatched to escort Lonnie to his new home not made by human hands. On December 6, 1956, he married his enduring, faithful, and loyal wife Pearletha Jackson and to this union, five children were added.
Lonnie attended the public schools of Marlboro County. He worked for many years as a certified welder at Bryant’s Machine Shop. For many years he taught welding at area high schools. Due to his strong belief in his family, church, and community and his love for welding, upon retiring he built a machine shop in his back yard where he had hoped to inspire and teach others the trade.
He was also a member of the Berea Association Finance Committee. He served on the Blenheim School Board of Marlboro County, Marlboro County Water Board, Carolina Messenger Paper Board member, and a member of Mystic Union Lodge #31 where he also served as Worshipful Master.
Lonnie leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife of 63 years Pearletha; three sons, Lonsie (Mary) Ward of Katy, Texas; Anthony (Louise) Ward of Vacaville, California, and Ricky Lee (Inetta) Ward of Bennettsville, SC; two loving daughters Wilma Delores (Ivan) Goodwin of Columbia, SC and Ella (William) Newman of Jonesboro, GA. Thirteen grandchildren, thirteen great grands, and one great-great grand. One sister, Vernice Lacey of Brooklyn, NY; two sisters-in- law, Ella Mae Bowman and Mary Ruth (James) Cooper of Newburgh, NY a host of loving nieces and nephews, and a community of other relatives and friends.
