Mae Jenkins Obituary

On Thursday, June 16, 2022, God in His Infinite Power called one of his children, Mae Ida Bethea-Jenkins home from her earthly labor to heavenly rest. She transitioned peacefully in the comfort of her home on Marshall Street in Bennettsville, S.C. after a short illness.

Mae Ida Bethea-Jenkins was born in Marlboro County to the late Gregg Bethea Sr. and Louvenia Manning-Bethea from this union eight children were born in which Mae Ida was the only daughter.  Her parents and seven brothers proceeded her in death.

Mother Jenkins received her formal education through the Marlboro County Schools. She accepted the Lord as her Savior at an early age was baptized and became a member of the Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, Bennettsville, South Carolina.

At an early age she met and married Deacon Lorenzer Jenkins Sr. in which they became the proud parents of six children. After marriage, Mae Ida’s membership remained at Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church, Tatum, S.C.  where she served as a member of the Nurse’s Aide Ministry, Missionary Ministry, and a member of the Berea Association Nurse Aide Ministry.

Later in life she and her husband joined the Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, Bennettsville, S.C., Mother Jenkins as she is fondly remembered as, served faithfully as a Deaconess, Member of the Missionary Ministry, and continued as a member of the Berea District Nurse’s Aide Ministry until her health failed. Additional church and community organizations included: Stokes Hill Lodge, Bennettsville Parrish Senior Citizens and Friendship Saving Club. She was active member of World Outreach Deliverance Ministry. During the years she was employed at the Bennettsville Sewing Factory, BVD in Clio, S.C. and for many years she was a cook and caretaker until retirement.

Mother Jenkins was a strong woman of faith, and she loved God.  Psalm 121: verses 1-2, I will lift up my eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth were just a few of her favorite scriptures.

She was loved and adored by her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, family, extended family, friends, church and community. Her words of wisdom, wit and laughter will always remain with us.

Her husband, Lorenzer Jenkins Sr, son, Lorenzer Jenkins Jr. grandchildren, Basheba Hayes Spears, Andrea Cash and Jacobie Grace preceded her in death.

Left to cherish her memories: daughters Rev. Mae Cash, (Teaneck, N.J) Lorene Mosby (Fayetteville, Georgia), son, Cleveland (Mozella) Jenkins, Bennettsville, S.C., daughter, Apostle Earlene J. Hayes (Blenheim, S.C.) daughter, Otelia (Gregory) Grace, Bennettsville, S.C., and Thomas (Tom) Pete Jenkins adopted son. Six grandchildren; Cleveland (Garnett) Jenkins, Charlotte N.C., Regina (Charles) Clark, Somerset, New Jersey; Reginald (Melissa) Jenkins, Charlotte, N.C., Yamica (Demarrio) Williams, Blenheim, S.C. Maurice Jenkins, Charlotte, N.C., and Marcus Mosby, Hampton, Georgia, six great-grandchildren, ten great-great-grandchildren., seven great-great-great children. Many special nieces, special nephews, special cousins, a host of relatives, and friends.
