Moses Peterkin Obituary

With profound sorrow we announce the passing of Moses Peterkin who passed August 3, 2021 at his residence in Bennettsville.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, August 11, 2021 at 11am at Cedar Fall Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Mr. Moses Peterkin, 85, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday August 3, 2021.

He was born to the late Tommy Peterkin and Marie Harley Peterkin in Marlboro County, South Carolina.

Man, as he was affectionately known, was educated in South Carolina and as a young man, worked with his family as a farmer. He later moved to Brooklyn, New York and found employment as a Baker. God allowed him to work for the bakery contracted to prepare the inauguration cake for John F. Kennedy.

The community soon discovered that he was a true cake boss.

Moses met and married Willie Ray Cooper Peterkin and through this union bore three daughters.

Later in life he met and married the love of his life, Annie Pearl McGhee Peterkin., who preceded him in death on February 17, 2021.

They shared a beautiful life together, which included traveling and cooking. Prior to relocating from New York to South Carolina, Moses took evening courses and learned the art of drapery and reupholstering. He mastered the courses and began redecorating for family, friends and neighbors.

Moses and Annie became faithful members of Cedar Fall Missionary Baptist Church. They loved sharing their culinary skills with their church family and friends.

Moses was a kind man. He loved the Lord and loved to be a blessing to others. He was a true example of “Hebrews 13:16" ….and do not forget to do good and to share with others, for such sacrifices God is pleased".

His new home is in Glory with his parents, his devoted wife, brother Wesley Peterkin and sisters Ruth Boyd and Tommie Jane Dunlap.

Left to cherish precious memories are his three daughters and sons-in-law: Linda Scott and Eugene Scott of Brooklyn, New York, Gail Cockerl and Mack Cockerl of Rosedale, New York, Carolyn McKenzie and Paul M. McKenzie, Sr., of Hamilton, New Jersey. One son, Jackie McGhee, of Savannah, GA. Daughter in love, Cathy Douglas of Stone Mountain. Brother, George Peterkin of Bennettsville, SC. Sisters, Ann Calhoun of Bennettsville, SC, Ella Bell Parker of Charlotte, NC, Eula Mae Ward of Bennettsville, SC, and Annie Jane Dupree of Hillside, NJ. In Laws, Shirley Wade Buckles, Belinda Wade West (Roy), Clifford Ranford Wade, Arnetha Peterkin. Five Grandchildren and six Great Grandchildren. A special niece, Cassandra Owens. Bonus daughter, Dianne Watson. Devoted friend, Bobby Covington. A host of nieces, nephews and neighbors and friends. To know him was to love him, he is already sorely missed.
