Nakia Nasheea Brown, known to family and friends as “Kia” was the daughter of Ylonda Spears McDowell and Rodney Brown. She was born on April 27, 1996 in Jamaica, Queens, New York.
Nakia received her formal education in the public schools of Marlboro, Scotland and Guilford County. At a young age, she became a dedicated member of New St. Matthew Missionary Baptist Church where she was a member of the Starlight Choir.
Kia was a very loving, caring, free-spirited, giving soul and was always the life of the party to her family and friends. She had energy that was supreme, and she lived to serve others.
"Kia" transitioned on Saturday, February 15, 2020 at the age of 23. She will reunite with her papa, the late Willie Spears Sr.; her grandma, Margaret "Ma Jack" Jackson; her uncle, Johnny Junior "Soupbone" Spears; and her aunties, BaSheba Spears, Valerie "LaKeisha" Jackson, and Elaine Smith.
Her astonishing celebration of life will be remembered by her mother, Ylonda Spears (Shattling) McDowell; father, Rodney "Justice" (Tameka) Brown; four sisters: Tyija (Tony) Brown (including 2 nieces and 1 nephew), Kameia Brown, Shaquiees Thomas and Corletta Thompson; one brother, Ramel Robinson; grandmother, Esther Spears; special uncle and auntie, Willie "Buchey" Spears (Betty); uncles, Tony, Charles "Goot" and Kevin "Goo Goo" Spears, Frazier "Uncle Smitty" Smith; aunt, Nicole Brown; special 1st cousins, Daisha, Kevonna and Jessica· spears; cousins, LaDerrick York (Airforce), Jermaine Spears (Army) and Jalaya Cook; a host of additional cousins, great aunts, great uncles, special educators and a special best friend, Tiairra.
