Willie McRae Obituary

Mr. Willie Douglas (Richard) McRae Jr was born to the late Willie Douglas (W. D) McRae  and Grace (Davis) McRae on February 22, 1947 in the Neck Area of McColl, SC.

He attended the Marlboro County School System until he left school early to help with the care of his brothers and sisters. He would do odd jobs from raking leaves to working in the grocery store because he did not like picking cotton.

Willie worked in the textile industry for over 50 years. Upon his retirement he started his own lawn care business until his health began to fail.

He joined Greater Fair Plain AME Zion Church at an early age and accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior in 1991. He was a member of Stoke Hill Lodge # 361 for 48 years. He was a faithful and devoted man to his church, family, and community. He was a member of the male Choir, Usher Board, Steward Board, and member of the Lay Council.

He met the love of his life, the late Mary L. Poe, when they were just 16. They were married on November 4, 1947 and were married for 52 years and were blessed with four children.

God called his humble and faithful servant home on January 8, 2021.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Lewis; his baby girl, Teressa; and his loving wife, Mary.

He leaves to cherish in his memory one daughter Cynthia Sanders of the home; two sons Richard (Karen) McRae Of Bennettsville, SC; Brian McRae of Duluth GA; one son-in-law Dale Woods; seven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren and one great grandchild, Destiny Sanders of the home.
