James was affectionately known as Jim. Jim obtained his educational training at Lincoln High School. He was converted at an early age and joined the New St Matthews Missionary Baptist Church. He was a faithful member until his health failed.

They were married on July 17, 1975 and remained married for 31 years until her sudden passing. From this loving union, four sons were born.

Jim loved to go to Burger King every day and have his morning coffee. Jim was always one to speak his mind. He had a passion for farming and for working on cars and teaching his boys mechanics. So much, that he loved to talk about how his Chevys were always better than and could beat any Ford.
